Requirement

This is the 14o pitched roof of a stables situated on the edge of Basingstoke. The owner required a roof that contains local species of plants to lend itself to its local surroundings of farmland and rural landscapes and fit in with the local flora and wildlife habitat. The stables will be used for horses so the waterproofing properties of the roof were paramount. Coronet Turf required a green roof that is easily installed on a pitched roof and will be relatively maintenance free.

Solution

Protan (UK) Ltd supplied and installed a roof that has both met and exceeded the requirements of the owner. Protan’s ‘Wildflower Turf’ roof uses local flora, an ideal match to the surrounding wildlife. The new Turf Roof System is of Scandinavian design and is a new product in the UK. The growing medium is installed in hessian bags in a brickwork configuration up the slope, levelled off with compost with the ‘Wildflower Turf’ mat laid on top.

The ease of installation makes the Turf Roof system one of the simplest green roof system to install. It also provides some additional thermal benefits to the stables, ensuring it stays cool in the summer and warm in the winter. Coupled with the use of Protan’s PROGREEN membrane, the whole system is laid far quicker than conventional green roof systems.

Warranty

A 10 year warranty is standard on all Protan PROGREEN systems. This comes with an assurance that all Protan (UK) Ltd products have excellent durability and high performance under extreme weather conditions.
