Launching our 2024 Sustainability Statement

We are proud to launch our third sustainability statement for 2024. This year, we have made significant progress in several key areas:

  1. Reduction of total emission from base year (2022): 13.4 %
  2. Total emissions: 120 066 tCO2eq
  3. 17.2% female employees
  4. 5 on-site supplier inspections conducted
  5. Launching PROcycle: 480 kg offcuts and surplus materials returned in 2024

Throughout Protan’s history, we have always focused on sustainability. However, our actions were often on an ad hoc basis. About 1.5 years ago, we embarked on a more structured strategic journey towards sustainability. Several factors contributed to this shift, including updating our company strategy with a clear sustainability focus (net zero by 2050) and reporting annually on our sustainability efforts.

The sustainability report has been a clear guideline for us. Using the double materiality assessment, it helped us find direction on where to start and where our focus should be. We are working to make sustainability an operational part of our work, linking our work to the goals we have set. It is important to emphasize that not everyone does everything, but we clearly define who does what.

To make sustainability more recognizable, we have integrated practical and concrete measures into existing processes. A good example is our recycling initiative, PROcycle, launched in 2024.

We already recycle our own offcuts and products with production defects. We maintain good dialogue with logistics suppliers, have efficient reception routines, and our production team has routines for grinding our own offcuts. With a few working meetings involving those in charge of these processes, we have managed to offer this service to customers and everyone in the organization. You can read more about this in our report.

For us, working with sustainability is a journey where we constantly develop and mature. Our key takeaways from the reporting work so far:

  • Don't overcomplicate sustainability work: Sustainability should be part of daily operations, not an additional task. Use examples like PROcycle to illustrate this.
  • Take many small steps: Implement projects gradually and use CSRD as guidelines.
  • Seek out collaboration: Engage in both formal and informal networks. Find skilled professionals for inspiration and be open to sharing knowledge.

By integrating sustainability into our daily operations and taking small, manageable steps, we can make significant progress towards our goals.
