In March 2024, European legislators adopted the EU Solar Standard within the European Performance of Buildings Directive, mandating solar installations on buildings across the European Union. This initiative, effective gradually from 2026, supports the EU’s goal of reducing net greenhouse gas emissions by at least 55% by 2030.

Protan's thermoplastic roof membrane emerges as a sustainable alternative to the conventional bitumen membrane. The environmental impact is further highlighted by the fact that replacing every 50 square meters of Protan roof membrane for a 5 mm bitumen membrane results in a reduction of heavy oil consumption equivalent to one oil barrel. This innovation positions Protan as a driving force in the movement toward greener roofing solutions.

Waste is a significant environmental challenge in the building and construction industry, and Protan is now taking an important step in reducing the amount of waste through a collaboration with one of our insulation suppliers, Rockwool.
